Send Back the Echo – exploring deafness and music

Created by United Strings of Europe

Send Back the Echo- a novel concert experience bringing together music, storytelling and British Sign Language (BSL)

The United Strings make their Southbank Centre debut with send back the echo, an innovative project exploring deafness and social isolation with Brtish Sign Language actor Vilma Jackson. The 75-minute programme features music and moving text by deaf composers Beethoven and Evelyn Glennie (adapted, artistically re-written and performed by Vilma Jackson), alongside works by three other thrilling contemporary composers: Jasmin Rodgman, Gareth Farr and Jessie Montgomery.

The entire concert and spoken introductions will be signed in British Sign Language. There will be a pre-concert workshop open to ticket holders led by Deaf musician Ruth Montgomery introducing the evening’s programme and the performers. This production is generously supported by The Radcliffe Trust, The Skinners’ Company Charitable Trust and the Marchus Trust.
