Interpreting for Deaf People with Dementia & Their Families – Creating a Safe Space – Live BSL Webinar

With Dr Emma Ferguson-Coleman
Wednesday 3rd December, 7pm

Back by popular demand, Dr Emma Ferguson-Coleman returns with a deeper exploration of working with Deaf people with dementia and their families.

This live BSL-delivered webinar is designed for interpreters working with Deaf people — including intralingual (Deaf relay) interpreters — who want to develop their understanding of communication, culture, and care in dementia settings.

Drawing on her research and lived experience, Emma will:

• Recap dementia symptoms and share a practical checklist for those concerned about cognitive changes
• Introduce effective communication strategies for Deaf people with dementia and their family carers
• Provide tools for engagement at the point of contact
• Explore generational and cultural perspectives of ageing in the Deaf community
• Share insights into the BSL Cognitive Screening Test (BSLCST) and guidance for working with assessors

Join us for an engaging and compassionate session that deepens understanding, strengthens confidence, and promotes culturally sensitive support for Deaf people living with dementia.
