Vajrasati is a style of yoga that uses traditional yoga elements – like physical postures (called asanas), breathing techniques (called pranayama), and meditation – to help you feel calm, grounded, and fully present.
These practices work together to guide you toward a peaceful, focused state where your mind isn’t racing and your body feels settled. In yoga, this deep state of awareness and connection is called samadhi – a kind of mental stillness where you feel at ease with yourself and the world around you.
Vajrasati encourages a thoughtful approach to yoga, aiming not just to stretch or strengthen the body, but to bring harmony between body, breath, and mind.
These particular yoga classes are taught in BSL by Sophie Allen, who is a hearing qualified sign language interpreter, and has been signing for over 22 years, and practising yoga for 12 years. Sophie qualified as a yoga teacher in 2018 and offers yoga classes & workshops at studios, festivals, classes and private 1:1 sessions. In classes, Sophie will explain each posture and breathing technique, and also challenge you in fun ways to strengthen your body and focus your mind.
There are mirrors in the studio so you can see the instructions, yourself, and each other clearly. The postures and techniques will be explained clearly in BSL, and repeated if needed. The classes are informal, and slow paced. We use cushions and other yoga equipment to adjust each person’s body to suit them to the movements. Mats and equipment are provided.
