BSL Tour of 1880 THAT with Peter Brown

Created by Wellcome Collection

Join Deaf historian Peter Brown for a tour of the '1880 THAT: Christine Sun Kim and Thomas Mader' exhibition.

Join Deaf historian Peter Brown for a tour of the ‘1880 THAT: Christine Sun Kim and Thomas Mader‘ exhibition.

The tour will look at the Milan Conference of 1880, which banned sign language, and its far-reaching impact on Deaf communities across the world. It will also describe how a new dawn began in 1960, marked by demands for sign language to be recognised as a language in its own right. This shift helped bring Deaf communities back from the brink of obscurity.
