BSL Tour and workshop: SO THIS IS REAL LIFE

Created by Martin Glover

Punk Post Punk tour and workshop in BSL style!

Join Martin Glover, a BSL (British Sign Language) user, on a free guided tour of our Gallery 1 exhibition as part of our spring programme, SO THIS IS REAL LIFE:ย ย Punk-Post-Punk Imagining 1975-85.

Curated with writer Philip Hoare, the exhibition looks at the impact of the punk and post-punk period of the 70s and 80s, and its present-day reverberations.ย  The exhibition analyses the still vibrating traces of the punk scene from an analogue age.ย A specially commissioned, billboard-scale photomontage work by Linder Sterling โ€“ inspired by Raphael and the footballer Miguel Azeez โ€“ is part of the exhibition, which also features archive works by Linder from the mid-1970s, including evocative images from the celebrated Manchester gay/drag club, Dickens, and her famousย photomontageย work for the Buzzcocksโ€™ย Orgasm Addictย record sleeve.

After the tour, Martin will lead a โ€˜Punkyโ€™ creative workshop inspired by the exhibition, supported with Vicky Barber-Crimes, a local deaf artist. We will probably use a VHS sleeve to create your own statement and badge making too!

Refreshments will be provided.
