BSL Interpreted Tour: Memorials and Memory

Created by Westminster Abbey

In this exclusive tour for BSL users and students, take a fresh look at the Abbey

In this exclusive tour for BSL users and students, take a fresh look at the Abbey as an evolving place of national memory.

Explore the role of national memory at Westminster Abbey, a building that is filled with beautifully designed memorial stones, windows and sculptures. With over 3,000 people buried and remembered in Westminster Abbey, each memorial tells a story about the past and how their legacy impacts our perceptions of British history in the present.

On this 75-minute tour, you’ll stop at a mix of famous and lesser-known memorials from the last 1,000 years, walking through some of the Abbey’s most atmospheric spaces including:

  • The Cloisters, medieval corridors heaving with memorials old and new
  • The Nave, including a space known as Scientists’ Corner

This tour is exclusively delivered in BSL, open to British Sign Language users, their companions and those studying British Sign Language. We retain the right to turn away tickets holders without refund for those who do not meet this condition. If you do not use or study BSL, please explore our other tour offers here.

British Sign Language is a visual spatial language. It involves a combination of hand shapes, facial expressions, lip patterns and body language.
