Deaf Where? is committed to providing a website that is inclusive and accessible for all users, particularly Deaf and disabled communities. This site was built with accessibility in mind from the start, and we continuously strive to improve the experience for everyone.
Our Commitments
- BSL support: Where possible, event listings include a BSL video or state whether BSL interpretation will be available. Organisers are encouraged to upload BSL content when submitting their events.
- Access information: Each event has a dedicated “Access & inclusion” section, where details like captioning, wheelchair access, and sensory considerations are shown clearly.
- Deaf-friendly design: We use high-contrast colours, large font sizes, and a clean layout to support readability and visual navigation.
- Responsive layout: The website is fully responsive for mobile, tablet, and desktop use, supporting accessibility across devices.
Areas for Improvement
We are actively working to:
- Improve alt text across all icons and visual elements
- Expand BSL translations beyond individual event videos, including key pages like About and Contact
- Audit and enhance ARIA labels and semantic heading structure for better screen reader use
- Provide clearer focus states and tab order for all interactive elements
