A brand-new, family-friendly arts festival celebrating deaf and disabled creativity, taking place in Sunderland on 27 & 28 June 2026.
Join us for the first-ever Signs Alive Festival, a joyful and inclusive celebration of Deaf and disabled artists and performers. Led by Deaf artist Paul Miller (Rory Studio CIC) and produced by Surface Area Dance Theatre, this vibrant two-day festival brings together an exciting mix of performances, creative workshops, visual art, and live entertainment.
Families and visitors can enjoy inspiring theatre, hands-on creative activities, exhibitions, and live DJ experiences in a welcoming and accessible environment. The programme features work from a diverse range of artists including Cara MacWilliam, Fuse Theatre, Southpaw Company, Greener Lavelle, Sunderland College, Deaf Rave, Lisette Auton, and Charlotte Arrowsmith, alongside visual art from Tom White / Surface Area.
From giant puppets and immersive VR art to family play activities and interactive workshops, there’s something for everyone to explore. Signs Alive Festival celebrates visual storytelling and sign language while creating space for Deaf and disabled creativity to shine.
The festival aims to break down barriers in the arts and inspire Deaf and disabled children and young people to see themselves represented and empowered through creativity.
Come and be part of a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and inclusion.
