Two Tours: Signs of the Moorlands

History and wellbing led by two lovely facilitators

In Ilam, Martin and Lorna alongside BSL interpreter, Samantha will take you on a walking tour, Signs of the Moorlands. There will be two tours; morning and afternoon.

You will explore the natural environment, discover stories from the history of this place (in the morning tour;  you  can learn some BSL sign vocabulary).

Times

  • 10.30am – OPEN TO ALL (where there is opportunity to learn some relevant BSL signs)
  • 2.30pm – FOR SIGNERS 

    Allow approx 2 hours for stops along the way

Terrain

Paths are well-marked; there are steps in places. Rest points are available. Some paths may be boggy, especially after rain, with uneven surfaces.

A qualified mindful walking facilitator, Lorna Stoddart encourages participants to develop a connection with the present moment, focusing on movement and breath in our environment boosting feelings of wellbeing.

A qualified architect and art facilitator, Martin Glover is deaf and a native British Sign Language (BSL) user. He is also an established tour guide, covering many themes relating to contemporary art and outdoor art across UK, including Yorkshire Sculpture Park where he does walking tours in the park occasionally.

 

Getting to Ilam Park

2.5 miles off the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton 25 miles from M1 junction 28 25 miles from M6 junction 15. Upon arrival to Ilam and Dovedale please drive carefully and be considerate of the local communities and farmers that live and work there. Please do not block access points or roads, these must be kept clear at all times for farmers, local communities and the emergency services.
