Join Deaf artist Olivier Jamin for a tour of Made in the Middle: A Craftspace touring exhibition in British Sign Language. The tour will be up to 90 minutes. There will be a short break for the interpreter and an opportunity to revisit some of the pieces.
The exhibition draws together 37 artists whose work highlights the innovative contemporary crafts being made in the Midlands today. The artists represent the region’s vibrant and diverse creative community and include both emerging talents and established names. The wide range of objects, materials, skills, processes and techniques on display provide inspiration for anyone interested in making, seeing or buying craft.
This is the final venue of Made in the Middle’s 18-month tour. In its final iteration, this showing of Made in the Middle also features artworks made by four Birmingham-based young people who developed their artistic skills, interests and identities with support from four exhibiting artists as part of Crafting Pathways, as well as works by the ten ‘everyday makers’ highlighted through a digital commission entitled Stories of Making and Migration. Birmingham-based videographer Hayley Salter has made a short film about each of these everyday makers who craft for themselves, making at home, in a local studio or with a community. Through jewellery, pottery, crochet, textiles, blacksmithing and batik, their work celebrates the cultural and ethnic diversity of the Midlands. It highlights how craft skills that migrate with the makers influence creativity.
Booking via the MAC website is essential.
